My name is Chelsea Todoroff and I was born in La Jolla, California. My family moved to Oakland, California where I remained until college. In 1998, I graduated high school and moved to La Jolla to attend UCSD. After five long years, I finally graduated with a B.A. in Human Development. I have always known that I wanted to work with children, but I struggled with the decesion of what arena I would do this. After years of playing around with the idea, I decided my calling is in special education. I feel a special connection to severly handicapped students and can not wait to embark on my new career path.
Computers and I have never gotten along well. During college, I mastered only the basic skills to get by. I did take a computer class and built a very simple website, however, I believe a forgot everything I learned. I generally use a PC, but MAC and PC scare me equally. I use a computer on a regualr basis for things such as email, looking for work and discovering new information. I am hoping this class will allow me to be more comfortable with computers.
The mission statement stood out to me the first time I read it. I spent my early schooling in a diverse environment where I was the minority. One of the reasons I have choosen teaching as a profession is to provide equal education to minorities and children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. The mission statement's emphasis on diversity and educational equity encourages me to reach groups of students that otherwise might be overlooked in our society.
